MODULE 8
LESSON 60: Setting Healthy Expectations
DESCRIPTION:
In this video Stephen helps you set your own realistic and healthy boundaries to avoid unnecessary disappointments, and to stay focused and encouraged throughout your songwriting journey.
TIME STAMPS:
Healthy Time: 0:46
Healthy Heart: 1:45
Your greatest stumbling block: 2:06
Healthy Co-writes and Community: 2:59
CLARIFICATION on Time: 10 minutes/day 5 days/week for burst writing, 1 2-hour session once a week for outlining and developing songs, and 1 day of rest per week. Spend the next week in the rewriting checklist making edits and adjustments to your songs, and taking meetings with other creatives. Repeat for weeks 3 and 4 to set you up for a healthy month of creativity with good boundaries. The GOAL is to finish 2-4 songs per month. You can do this!
HOMEWORK:
Make a list of healthy expectations for yourself as a worship songwriter. When you are finished with your list, make sure your calendar reflects living out these goals and expectations. To help build your list of healthy expectations you can answer the following questions:
How much time will you be writing each week?
How many songs will you be finishing each week or month?
What are some of your greatest spiritual and emotional weaknesses that could stop you from achieving your goals?
What are you going to do to make sure those weaknesses do not dictate your ability to succeed in songwriting?
Who is your current creative community?
How many co-writes do you want each month?
How many new co-writers do you want to meet each month?
Will I commit to joining an outpost or community of writers to stay accountable to my journey, my mission, while also accomplishing something much greater than I can do on my own?
